Advocacy

Creating Impact

BCRPA shapes healthier futures. We champion recreation, parks and fitness as the foundation of thriving, resilient communities. We advocate for investments that promote health, safety, and belonging for all British Columbians.

Through our membership, partners, and sector expertise, we support more than 95% of the province—aligning local experience with provincial and federal priorities to create lasting, measurable impact.

How we do it

Purpose in Action

BCRPA advocates for policies and partnerships that enhance the lives of all British Columbians. Our advocacy priorities are identified through our membership

Through leadership, collaboration, advocacy, and innovation, we empower our members and fitness professionals to build and manage spaces, places and programs that bring complete communities to life.

Our Commitments

BCRPA shapes healthier futures. We do this by championing our four strategic commitments: wellbeing, belonging, reconciliation, and climate change.

Enriching Well-being

We are committed to building communities where everyone can move, play, and connect—through every stage of life.

We promote the power of physical activity and access to nature as vital to health, connection, and the well-being of every British Columbian.

We do this through BCPRA Fitness, our registered fitness program as well as professional development opportunities that support youth through to older adults.

Building Belonging

We are committed to creating spaces within our organization, events, education and communities where everyone feels they belong. Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) guide everything we do.

Through ongoing dialogues, training, and partnerships, we strive to remove barriers, amplify underrepresented voices, and promote equity and fairness. This commitment to belonging aligns with our vision to enhance the well-being of all British Columbians, fostering communities that thrive.

Advancing Reconciliation

We are committed to learning and unlearning together—honouring diverse knowledge systems and ways of being in all that we do.

Our work aligns with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. We are grateful to collaborate with Indigenous leaders as we re-examine and renew our practices.

Addressing Climate Change

We are committed to protecting the health of our planet and communities by ensuring recreation and parks spaces remain vibrant, resilient, and accessible for generations to come.

We champion sustainability through land stewardship, waste reduction, energy efficiency, and biodiversity protection—supporting members to reduce impacts and strengthen climate-conscious management of parks, recreation facilities, and green spaces.
