We respect the privacy of every individual who visits our website. We take great measures to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of any personal information on this site.
All personal information supplied will remain within our organization and will not be shared with any external entity unless prior permission is given. Your personal information will not be sold in any manner whatsoever.

Accountability
Privacy of personal information is governed by BC’s Personal Information Protection Act (“PIPA”) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronics Documents Act (“PIPEDA”). BCRPA’s Privacy Policy describes the way that BCRPA collects, uses, and discloses personal information in the course of activities conducted on our website, and states BCRPA’s commitment to collecting, using and disclosing personal information responsibly. BCRPA’s Privacy Policy is based on the standards required by PIPA and PIPEDA, and BCRPA’s interpretation of these responsibilities.
The Personal Information Protection Officer of BCRPA is appointed by the CEO and is responsible for the monitoring of personal information collection, use, disclosure, data security and ensuring that all staff receives appropriate training on privacy issues. Information Collection, Use, and Sharing
BCRPA is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We only have access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via cookie consent, email, form input, or other direct contact from you. We will not sell or rent this information to anyone. We will not share your information with any third party outside of our organization, other than as necessary to fulfill your request, e.g. to provide a third-party facilitator with your information for a workshop that you registered for.
Personal information will only be collected by BCRPA to meet and maintain the highest standard of organizing and programming. The personal information may be collected in person, over the telephone, through the mail or over the internet
We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following purposes:
- commercial transactions and record keeping, such as registration for an event, conference, course or program, or membership purchase
- managing BCRPA memberships, including determining eligibility
- managing personal records in The Registy® of Fitness Professionals, including eligibility, tracking continuing education credits, professional development, certifications and renewal
- improving our products and services
- to periodically send information which we think you may find interesting using the email address which you have provided, unless you ask us not to.
Consent
BCRPA will obtain consent by lawful means from individuals at the time of collection, prior to the use or disclosure of personal information. BCRPA may collect personal information without consent where reasonable to do so and where permitted by law.
By providing personal information to BCRPA, individuals are consenting to the use of the information for the purposes identified in BCRPA’s Privacy Policy.
An individual may withdraw consent to the collection, use or disclosure of personal information at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions. The Personal Information Protection Officer will advise the individual of the implications of such withdrawal.
Limiting Use, Disclosure and Retention
Personal information will not be used or disclosed by BCRPA for purposes other than those for which it was collected as described in BCRPA’s Privacy Policy, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law.
Personal information will be retained for a reasonable period of time.
Information Collection for Analytics and Advertising
Our website uses cookies, web beacons, and other similar technologies for measurement services such as Google Analytics, and may now or in the future use such technologies for better advertisement targeting, and for marketing purposes.

Your Access to and Control Over Information

- Express any concern you have about our use of your data.
Individual account holders may, at any time, review, and modify their personal information by logging into their accounts on the BCRPA website and/or on The Registry® of Fitness Leaders. An individual who would like to delete their account may contact [email protected].
Upon written request, and with assistance from BCRPA, an individual may be informed of the existence, use and disclosure of his or her personal information and will be given access to that information. As well, an individual is entitled to be informed of the source of the personal information along with an account of third parties to whom the information has been disclosed.
Requested information will be disclosed to the individual within 30 days of receipt of the written request at no cost to the individual for the first two hours of labor associated with information retrieval and on a cost recovery basis thereafter.
An individual may be denied access to his or her personal information if:
- The information contains references to other individuals;
- The information cannot be disclosed for legal, security or commercial proprietary purposes;
- The information is subject to solicitor-client or litigation privilege.
Upon refusal, BCRPA will inform the individual the reasons for the refusal and the associated provisions of PIPEDA.
Security
We take precautions to protect your information. When you submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected both online and offline.
Wherever personal information is submitted to us (such as your name and email and payment information), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way. You can verify this by looking for a closed lock icon at the bottom of your web browser, or looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the web page. Please note, financial payment information such as credit card numbers are not stored in any of our systems.
While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, billing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The computers/servers in which we store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment and are protected by safeguards, including but not limited to restricted spaces, passwords, and firewalls.

Challenging Compliance
An individual may challenge BCRPA’s compliance with PIPA and PIPEDA, by submitting a challenge in writing.
Upon receipt of a written complaint, BCRPA will:
- Notify the complainant of the outcome of the investigation and any relevant steps taken to rectify the complaint, including any amendments to policies and procedures.
- Record the date the complaint is received;
- Notify the Personal Information Protection Officer who will serve in a neutral, unbiased capacity to resolve the complaint;
