There are numerous playground-related injuries reported on an annual basis. Playground safety training is a must for staff from parks and recreation, school districts, child care facilities, health departments, landscape architects and others responsible for play equipment areas or playgrounds.

BCRPA Playground Safety Awareness Course
A one full-day course for those participants who need an introduction or refresher on playground safety and the Canadian Standards Association’s (CSA) Children’s Playspaces and Equipment Standards. This course introduces and reviews the skills and knowledge required to detect hazards and non-CSA-compliant installations. Participants will learn the theory necessary to conduct a practical on-site playground inspection in class. Canadian Certified Playground Inspector Training (March 10 to 13, 2026, in Surrey)
The Canadian Certified Playground Inspector certification program is offered through the Canadian Playground Safety Institute (CPSI) and supported by the Canadian Training Network for Parks and Recreation (CTNPR) and the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA). Certified instructors have developed the Theory and Practical courses, which are offered across the country. The classroom courses include 1.5 days of training and an exam.
