Move for Health Day at the Community Recreation & Cultural Centre - Community Walk
Join us for a community walk, teamed up with the “Walk with your Doc” Initiative in partnership with Doctors of BC, Chilliwack Division of Family Practice and Agassiz Medical Centre to combine forces and promote the concept of physical activity and health in our community. This instructor-led walk along the scenic Mountain View Trail complete with activity stations will showcase the amenities of the walking trail and make the connection between Fraser Health resources and our local citizens. The walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. outside the Community Recreation & Cultural Centre. To include the younger generations, new this year we have also teamed up with Agassiz Public Health Unit, Fraser Valley Child Development Centre, Child Care Resource and Referral and Mission Community Services, Family Parenting Place and Agassiz Harrison Community Services, Live 5-2-1-0 and the Fraser Valley Regional Library - Agassiz Branch for a fun-filled Children’s Mini Course complete with child-friendly obstacles and activity stations. Light refreshments and prizes will follow the events while health information will be available through community displays on site. Move for Health Day is aimed at promoting awareness of the importance of physical activity, not only on this day but throughout the year and from year to year. Please join the Mayor or his designate as they read the resolution from Council that May 10 be declared as Move for Health Day in the District of Kent!

Edmonds Let's Get Moving Day Celebration
Edmonds celebrates Move for Health day with Adult Stroke Improvement & Fitness classes at 8:30am, noon and 9pm. Buggie Babies is a fun session to encourage moms and dads and caregivers to bring the stroller and child and take on an outdoor fitness adventure. At 4pm Tai Chi for Families will be offered to demonstrate what a quality way to move with the little ones all the way up to grandma and grandpa! At 6:15pm Stretches for Office Workers will be offered to show everyone how to move in a healthy way after not moving at your desk for the day! 2017 Health Day Event
The Lakeside Multiplex will offer to public for free to use our facility and equipment. The multiplex has equipped with a squash/racquetball/walleyball court, a climbing wall, Ping-Pong tables, children's physical activity equipment and a large multipurpose room. We will open to public for use of our facility for free and send them home with useful swag items which the multiplex offers such as Frisbees, water/shaker bottles, jump ropes, ear buds and bags. We will start the event from 10am to 7pm.

Move For Health - Mundy Park Walk
Members of Dogwood Pavilion, a City of Coquitlam recreation centre for adults 50 and older, will walk from our centre to Mundy Park. At Mundy Park, a local urban forest, a retired Professional Forester will lead the group through the forest, talking about the trees and animals found in Mundy Park. After the walk in the forest the group will return to Dogwood Pavilion and enjoy a snack and we will hold a draw for participants. Event will be 1 1/2 hours.

Lifesaving Sport Club
This club is designed for teens aged 13-18 years, who have a passion for swimming, water safety, and who want to work on their Aquatic Fitness. The Lifesaving Sport Club is a fun way to keep your skills up in between Advanced Leadership Courses and can be a great preparation for being trained as a Lifeguard. Flip Turn Clinics (all ages)
This clinic will help you move faster in the water. Learn how to maximize your swimming workout by learning how to complete a flip turn. This clinic is for all ages and geared towards those that want to learn to do flip turns. It is a 30-minute session that teaches the swimmer the tumble, foot placement, and how to push off the wall to complete flip turns. Swimming lengths builds cardiovascular endurance and it is a great overall body workout.

3 on 3 Youth Basketball Tournament (13-18 years)
This 3-on-3 basketball tournament is targeted toward youth ages 13 to 18. Youth will engage in friendly competition, utilize teamwork skills, and engage in a fun activity that keeps them healthy and active. A self-guided Scavenger Hunt starting at Aggie Hall and finishing at Transfer Beach; a route approximately 2.5km, recommended mode of travel walking, running, biking, scooting, skateboarding or rollerblading – anything active! Move for Health Challenge
The Challenge is for all residents to be able to complete 150 minutes of activities per week from the Canada ParticipACTION 150 Playlist. A list of 150 different physical activities that someone can do. The participants record the Playlist activity number and total your weekly minutes they achieved on a passport we have created. They will do this for a period or 4 weeks. They then submit the completed passport and are entered into a draw which will happen shortly afterwards for prizes.

Get Active on Move for Health Day! Move for Health Day is an international event created by the World Health Organization to promote physical activity. This year, Move For Health Day is Wednesday May 10th and Recreation Penticton has some great initiatives to keep children and families active. For only $2 you can drop-in to our Fitness Room all day, and from 5:30-6:30pm we’ll be hosting a FREE Family Zumba session in our gymnasium, all ages/abilities welcome (Zumba is a fitness class that combines Latin rhythms with easy to follow dance moves, creating an effective yet fun cardio workout). Shortly after Zumba, enjoy a dip in the pool between 7:00-8:30pm, also for the low cost of $2 per person. Revelstoke will be inviting all demographics to join together for a community walk along the river side "Green Belt" walking path. For this event will be inviting the schools, our seniors centre, and families to all take part. The paved path is very accessible for anyone who may have aids, walkers, or wheelchairs, and close to the schools. The green belt walk will lead us to Kovach Park that has new outdoor equipment, playground, skate parks, and green space. You have 10 days to visit the 5 locations on this list and finish all of the challenges. Each station is at a different park, trail or beach on Salt Spring Island. Challenges will include taking pictures, sketching, learning about local flora and fauna. The District of Summerland Recreation Department will be running the Move for Health Passport Challenge from May 7 to May 13, 2017. The Kick off event will be happening on Sunday, May 7th at Peach Orchard Park from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm and from 2:30-4:00 at the aquatic centre. This event is to celebrate Move for Health Day with week long activities for everyone in the community. The passports will be available for pick up at the Aquatic Office.

Move for Health Day at Katzie Elementary
The City of Surrey has planned a Move for Health Day event at a local school where we will engage students from grades 4-7. Our event will be based around the importance of active living and will offer an opportunity to teach students that being active is fun and necessary. We are doing a fun warm-up and then sending the kids off to the 10 different stations, which are being put on by the City of Surrey and other partner sport organizations. Each station will teach them a new skill, or engage them in a fun game or relay. For example, we have Softball BC, Tug of War, RCMP Mini Blue program, and Pacific Sport, just to name a few.

Move for Health Day
Move for Health Day has been celebrated city wide at the City of Surrey for many years. This year at the Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre we will be offering a day full of FREE programming design to get all community members moving and active. Move for Health day 2017 will include a healthy smoothie station featuring items that can be grown in our community garden. Drop-in fitness programs like Urban Pole Walking, Fit 55+ and Yoga. Drop-in sports program like Basketball, Pickle ball and Table Tennis will be offered throughout the day as well promotion of our Play Box program designed to encourage physical activity and promote outdoor play by offering free access to outdoor play equipment. Our youth lounge will be on full display featuring our latest Chuck Bailey Youth Urban Screen Project.
