Move for Health Day –
May 10th
Thousands of British Columbians got active on or around
May 10th, 2010 for 2010 Move for Health Day.
Hundreds of events were held across the province to
get BC moving and celebrate physical activity.
Move for Health Day is an international event
created in 2002 by the World Health Organization to
celebrate and promote physical activity. BCRPA leads
our province in promoting this global event and the
benefits of healthy active living.
The province got moving through a variety of events,
including community walks with the Mayor/Chief, free
swims and fitness classes.
The reigning champions of the Move for Health Day
community challenge were Quesnel with 6268 participants,
followed by Williams Lake with 5387 participants. Honourable
mentions go to Chilliwack, Prince George, and Richmond.
The local government challenge was won by the Fraser
Valley Regional District with 64% of their workforce
participating, followed closely by the City of Chilliwack
who engaged 63% of their workforce.
Many communities have participated in Move for
Health Day before with some communities registering
for the first time. Move for Health Day reached
all British Columbians, with events for older adults,
elementary schools and Aboriginal communities across
the province.
BCRPA would like to thank all participating communities,
sponsors and supporters for their commitment to making
BC more active. Move for Health Day is not
possible without your participation and hard work. If
you have any photos, stories or media pieces that you
would like to share, please send them to us via email,
phone or fax (604-629-2651).
We look forward to next year
as we continue to keep BC active and healthy!
