Programs & Initiatives Program Coordinator

BC Recreation and Parks Association
 
The British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) is a not for profit organization dedicated to building and sustaining active healthy lifestyles and communities in BC. Established in 1958, the Association is a central resource agency for members and stakeholders of parks, recreation, physical activity and culture sector, providing leadership, training and support to help meet national, provincial and local priorities. Through a diverse network of partners and extensive programs and services, BCRPA actively advocates accessibility and inclusiveness to recreation and physical activity.
 
We are currently seeking a full-time Program Coordinator who will be responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing a variety of BCRPA courses, events, workshops and initiatives as they relate to Parks and Recreation in the areas of: parks, aquatics, facilities, youth, children, and inclusion.
 
Duties of the position:
  • Coordinating training courses, events, conferences and workshops
  • Liaising with and providing support to workshop hosts and course facilitators
  • Assisting in the production of marketing and promotional materials
  • Promoting programs, workshops and events
  • Assisting with evaluation, report writing, data collection & data entry
  • Participating in meetings as needed
  • Responding to inquiries pertaining to Programs & Initiatives
  • Cooperating with the Manager in the implementation of the Association’s strategic plan
  • Performing related duties as needed
 
Required skills and knowledge:
  • Proven ability to coordinate, administer, implement, promote and evaluate a variety of training programs
  • Conference or large event planning experience
  • Experience working with volunteer committees
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective cooperative relationships
  • High degree of administrative skills, resourcefulness and attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a busy office environment
  • Professional, friendly, and highly motivated team player
 
Desired training and experience:
  • University degree/college diploma in recreation or related field
  • Related experience in a recreation programming or administrative capacity
 
Terms of Employment:
 
1.       Employment to begin on March 27, 2011, with a three-month probationary period. Satisfactory completion of the probationary period will be determined through a performance review. 
2.       The annual rate of pay is $45,500.00. Work week is 35 hours. Office hours are 8:30am – 4:30pm, with one hour off for lunch.
3.       Compressed work week program available after six months of continuous employment.
4.       Vacation leave to be provided at the rate of 15 days per year. Vacation accumulated at 1.25 days per month with eligibility to request vacation leave after six months of continuous employment.
5.       BCRPA benefits package available upon successful completion of the probationary period. Employee benefits plan contribution schedule is as follows:

d.      Group Life                                                           100% employer paid
e.      Accidental Death & Dismemberment            100% employer paid

*only available after 6 months of employment
