Obtaining Your Continuing Education Credits (CECs)
The BCRPA Fitness Registration Program offers a variety of methods for you to obtain your Continuing Education Credits (CECs), which are necessary to renew your Fitness Leader Registration
Renewal Credit Policies
- All CECs must be obtained within your renewal period (i.e. if you were registered from June 30, 2011 until June 30, 2013, only CECs obtained between those two dates would be accepted).
- CECs cannot be carried forward to future renewal periods, even if you have more CECs than you need to renew your designation.
- The number of CECs that a course or workshop is approved for are based on the number of educational hours they contain. 1 CEC = 1 educational hour. (i.e. a 5 hour workshop will be approved for 5 CECs). Lunch and other breaks do not count towards CECs.
- Proof of payment is not accepted as verification of course completion. A copy of the Certificate of Completion or letter from the course/workshop instructor confirming course completion is required.
- CECs are no longer given for CPR or First Aid courses.
Renewal Credit Options
BCRPA-Approved In-class Workshops
Every two weeks, the BCRPA generates a current listing of approved workshops. These workshops are offered in a variety of topic areas and are conducted in a classroom-type setting. The BCRPA reviews and approves course/workshop content and presenter credentials to confirm their appropriateness for Fitness Leaders.
The BCRPA does notadminister nor collect any revenue from courses/workshops. It is the instructor, not the BCRPA, who determines when and where the courses/workshops are run and how much is charged.
How do I verify my CECs for this option?
Instructors of BCRPA-approved in-class workshops are aware that they need to provide you with a certificate of completion which verifies you have completed the necessary training. Please submit a copy of this certificate along with the rest of your renewal package at the time of your Fitness Leader renewal.
BCRPA-Approved Distance Education Workshops
The BCRPA generates a listing of distance education workshops that have been approved for CECs. These workshops are delivered on-line and through correspondence. The BCRPA reviews and approves course/workshop content and presenter credentials to confirm their appropriateness for Fitness Leaders.

Other Workshops/Training Not Previously Approved by the BCRPA
If you have attended a conference or taken a course, workshop or some other kind of educational training that wasn’t previously approved by the BCRPA for CECs, you may still be able to receive credits for it. In order to have this training recognized for CECs, you will need to fill out and submit a Renewal Credit Petition Application.
How do I verify my CECs for this option?
Because the instructors of these courses may not be aware of the BCRPA’s criteria for renewal (submitting course completion certificates) they may not hand course completion certificates out at the end of the workshop/training.
If the instructor does give course completion certificates, submit a copy of the certificate along with the rest of your renewal package.
If the instructor does not give course completion certificates, you will need to ask them ahead of time to prepare a verification letter or certificate for you. Please ensure all letters coming from the instructor are on their official company letterhead. If you already took the training and didn’t receive a certificate or letter, you will need to contact the instructor and ask them for one and then submit a copy of the certificate/letter along with the rest of your renewal package at the time of your Fitness Leader renewal.
College/University Courses
If you are currently taking a college/university course and it’s related to your role as a Fitness Leader, you can receive CECs. 1 college/university credit = 10 BCRPA CECs.
How do I verify my CECs for this option?

Volunteering at the BC Fit Conference
