Boomer Friendly Boot Camps

Overview

Boomer-Friendly Boot Camp is a physical activity concept for men and women aged
55 – 70.

While physical activity programs for seniors exist in many communities, many men and women in the 55 – 70 age group do not yet find “seniors’” programs appealing. At the same time, they may not feel comfortable participating in mainstream physical activity programs designed for younger bodies. Boomer-Friendly Boot Camp aims to address this programming gap.

Boomer-Friendly Boot Camp targets inactive and moderately active men and women aged 55 – 70. The program provides general fitness training, and may also provide fitness training to prepare participants to try new sports or get back to sports they have not played in some time.

The concept is non-gym based, and can be offered in a variety of settings, including outdoors (e.g. sports fields, school playgrounds, trails), retirement villages, community halls, shopping malls and swimming pools.

Sessions may involve circuit training, but may also include opportunities for participants to try a variety of sports or modified sports.

A social component is an integral aspect of the concept: the intention is to create an environment where participants are so busy having fun, they don’t notice they are getting fitter.

The concept also includes an education component, to ensure participants leave the program with increased knowledge and practical ideas for staying healthy.
